It has , thus , been said in Sama Veda .
" The wise , after relinquishing this world , attain immortal life . " ( Kain Upanishad Mantra 2 )
A Hindi poet says :
" The one who gifts away one's head , drinks the nectar of Love . The greedy one cannot give away one's head , but renders mere lip-service to Love . "

A Persian poet says the same :
" Until you put your head under the saw , like a comb , you cannot play with the tresses of the Beloved . "
" Until your ego is crushed like a powder under pestle of knowledge , you cannot catch the eyes of the Beloved . "
" Until you are pierced through with a thin wire like a pearl , you cannot adorn the ears of your Beloved . "
" Unless you are plucked from the branch like a flower , you cannot enjoy the company of the Beloved . "
" Until your body is reduced into dust to be later converted unto a peg , you cannot touch the ruby-like lips of your Beloved . "
" Unless you get your head chopped under the knife like the feather pen , you cannot be touched by the fingers of the Beloved . "
" Until you are ground into a paste like henna leaves under the pestle of knowledge , you cannot reach the soles of the feet of the Beloved . "
" The eyes which do not appreciate GOD’s beauty are to be cursed . "
" The heart is dead which does not dedicate itself to the service of the holy preceptor . "
" O ! Your life is the embodiment of Love . Therefore , identify yourself with Love .
To cultivate indifference to Ego ( pride or selfishness ) , to dedicate one’s life in the quest of the Beloved , not to care for the sufferings which one is subjected to in the quest of the Beloved , and to merge one’s self with the Beloved are the things which lead to the Realization of the Self . "

In the Bible it has been said :
" Whosoever shall save one's life , shall lose it , and whosoever shall lose one's life shall save it . "
" Give away your life and be one with the Beloved .
Give away your head and become Ruler among people ;
Climb the scaffold and achieve the goal , like Mansoor . "
" Remove the veil of ego from your face
And dazzle the sun and the moon . "
A poet says :
" The Lark is in Love with Thee and so is the Sarva tree which stands in obeisance to Thee ,
The nightingale is enamoured of , and the roses are mad after Thee . "

GIVE UP EGO AND BECOME GOD
OBJECTION : Can a drop become a river ? How can a part claim to be the whole ? It appears that we can never attain GODhood .
RAMA : Firstly , you treat yourself to be different from what you really are . You are virtually committing suicide . You think yourself to be confined to your body alone , which you are certainly not .
Secondly , you presume GOD to be something quite different from the all-pervading Reality , treating IT as something personal , finite and limited and other than your real self .
This is not the way to realize Truth .
Of course , you have first to understand what you really are and then alone you will be able to realize GOD .
You will , then , instantly enjoy the sweetness of eternal bliss and attain perfect equanimity . All your doubts will , then , be cleared .
The names and the attributes that so and so , holding one degree or the other , belonging to this caste or that , engaged in this occupation or that , resident of this place or that , etc , do not constitute you .
In Vedanta this is known as ego . You are not this egoistic self . Your ego is not the Atma ( the Self ) .
Your ego is , in fact , an obstacle in realising GOD .
When the Self-realized person says , " I AM GOD " , it does not mean little self nor does it mean personal God ( finite and having qualities ) .
Not understanding the true impact of the assertion , the common person takes it as a sin .
Pride of the little self is not your real Self .
What Vedanta aims at is the eradication of this sense of meum et tuum ( mine and thine ) and to make you rise above your ego .

A bard visited the court of a Ruler and recited a poem in honor . It was in Persian and the opening line was as under :
" O Ruler ! May the crown of wealth adorn your forehead from the beginning of creation to the doomsday ie , for all time . "
The Ruler did not know Persian . The poem was really a nice one . In appreciation of the fine piece of literature , the Ruler ordered the poet to be duly recompensed by monetary reward .
Upon this , the court poet became intensely jealous , and asked the new poet to paraphrase the lines of the poem . While the new poet was doing so , the court poet interrupted at a point which seemed to have an adverse interpretation , to prove that the verse contained some derogatory remarks against the Ruler , and the visiting poet was asked to stop .
This interpretation , though wrong , infuriated the Ruler , who muttered in anger ,
" How do you dare say so ? "
The poor visiting poet was nonplussed and it became a problem for the poet to save one's own skin .
Similarly , O the ruler of the body ( the human being ) the Vedas are singing praises in thy honour . Do not misinterpret them . They say :
" The Soul is divine , ie , BRAHMAN . Thou are That . "
Do not discard this Divine Truth due to egoism and false pride .
Says a poet :
" Like others , do not make the Quran a trap of deceit and mockery . "
By denying the Real Truth , do not belittle the sacred Vedas and degrade your own Self .
The above story has been described differently as well .
While the visiting poet was paraphrasing the line , the visiting poet could read from the demeanour of the court poet that the intention was just to humiliate .
The visiting poet , therefore , pointing to the court poet , recited that part of the verse loudly in a manner so as to mean ,
" O cynic ( fault seer ) thou be cursed " .
The court poet was then humiliated and kept quiet .
Be that as it may , the Vedas have condemned the ego , born of ignorance .

In the following verse of Bhagwat Gita ( Chapter 3.37 ) , it has been said :
" All actions have their origins in the qualities of the Nature . Under egoistic influence , the little self attributes them to itself , thinking , ' I am the doer ' . "
Also a Persian poet says :
" The one who is unaware of GOD and does not know The True Self , thinks that all actions are performed by one . One is a victim of ignorance . One's madness is at its height . Such a state is to be lamented . "
Says an English writer :
" . . . . . . . . . . . One
By egoism demented , think oneself
The doer of those acts which are performed
Throughout by Nature's qualities . "
Do not be subservient to egoistic passions . Shun the idea of your separate entity . Under the impulse of ego , neither degrade yourself , nor consider GOD as finite or other than yourself .
The greatest misconception all the world over is that the Self ( Soul ) which is beyond mind and intellect , is being put into the same category as sense objects . The Soul , as such , is free of attributes . But due to ignorance , they treat It as having attributes .
For example , the life of all the living beings , including those of the animals , birds and human beings , is sustained by the sun .
The eyes see , because of the sun's light , the hands and the feet get their energy to work from the sun . The commotion on the Earth is due to the sun's energy .
Food for the human is produced in the fields due to the sun . The moonlight is in reality the reflection of the sun's light . The energy in the oil and the fuel to burn and to give light is drawn from the sun .
In short , whatever life is on this Earth is due to the sun .
A Sanskrit Shloka says :
" It is due to the sun's light that the human sits , moves about , works and returns home . "
The source of power for all the movements of the human limbs and the muscles to do any work , good or bad , is the sun . But none holds the sun responsible for any work , good or bad .
