O Ganga ! Is it thy breast which nurtures Brahm Vidya ( Divine Knowledge ) with its nourishing milk of GODliness ?
O Himalayas ! Is it the lap in which Girja ( god of Divine Knowledge ) rejoices in recreation ?
Do you remember when Rama came to seek peace under your shelter with anaemic looks , dejected heart and tearful eyes , and passed the nights , all alone , lying on the stone slabs which got wet with tears ?
Where is that super bliss which is everlasting ?
Oh , when shall I achieve that Divine ecstasy against which all the worldly pleasures fade into insignificance ?
When will the sun of Divine Knowledge shine directly on the equator of GOD-Realization ?
When will Rama's selfish interests and egoistic sentiments disappear , like mist or fog ?
Will that time be ever ripe , when favours and frowns , sins and sorrows , lust and power will have no impact on Rama ?
Is " Turiya Avastha " ( the stage of complete absorption in Self ) only to be described ?
Rama is wandering like a mad person in the thick mountainous jungles , bare head , bare feet and bare body with only a few copies of the Upanishads in hands .

According to a poet :
" The blood of my liver is my wine and my tears are pleasant showers . My cup of wine does not depend on clouds alone . "
" Mere cry of lamentation will not suffice . Go to the solitude of the forest and weep there , bitterly to attract the attention of the Beloved . "
" O Lover ! It is worth while to write down your Love story on the henna leaves . It is , then , quite possible that it may gradually reach the hands of your Beloved . "
Would you care to know the reply of the mountains ? I will never forget the sympathy of the mountains to my heart-rending entreaties .
" When my destiny of Love was written , I was allotted the treasure of sorrow and sufferings and the territory of solitude as my Rulerdom . "

" Either Royalty or beggary . "
Nothing less and nothing more .
O parents ! your offspring will not go back now . O students ! your teacher will not now return to the profession . O dear spouse ! your spouse is now gone , gone for good . How long can marital relations continue under such circumstances ? How long ?
Rama has got to snap all worldly connections and , as such , all your hopes and aspirations have to be wiped off .
The time and space will be drown in the waves of the everlasting Bliss , or Rama's body will be surrendered to the Ganga .
After the death of the mortal body , the bones of generally all ( the Hindus ) are offered to the holy Ganga , but , if there is no practical Realization of Self and if the slightest body-consciousness is left in Rama , Rama will present the bones and flesh to the fish in the Ganga , while still living .
The eyes are shedding tears and the deep sighs are , as if , like swift wind , keeping pace with the torrential rain , inside and outside alike . Along with this excitement and inner commotions , the following song is coming out of Rama's heart :
O Ganga ! I surrender to thee , hundred times
I offer my flesh and bones to thee in place of flowers and Batachas ( sweets ) .
I give away my mind ( consciousness ) to the monkeys ( living at thy banks ) and throw away my intellect ( consciousness ) in thy swift current .
Let my desires be devoured by thy fish and my ego be buried under thy mountainous source .
I burn all my sins and virtues as an incense .
May I become thee , if I take a dip in thee .
May the entire Universe , including solid , liquid , gas , etc , be my own self .
May I merge in the Universal Self or I do not deserve to be called " RAMA " ( " GOD " ) .

Gigantic trees are standing in deep silence on the banks of the Ganga , as if they are in meditation .
The soft and tender flowers in beautiful colours are like the captivating smiles of the young and lovely children . The cold breeze is swinging these flowers . The exhilarating air with all its fragrance is very pleasant and refreshing .
" The air is swinging the tender branches and kissing the beautiful flowers . "
The whole atmosphere is charged with exquisite beauty . Rama is in a fix which side to face . All the directions are resplendent with gorgeous splendour .
Green fields of rice are undulating like manes of the slopes of the mountains . Crystal clear falls are coming down the hills to water these fields and , then , finally to merge in the Bhagirathi Ganga , like GOD-intoxicated sages losing their identity in GOD-Realization .
Words fail to describe the enchanting beauty of the Bhagirathi . It appears that it is the heart of the Universal Self , because of its captivating charm . Its cool and refreshing nature , its " OM , OM " producing sound etc , are washing off the vagrancy and impurities of the mind .

The beauty of Ganga is beyond description . Its water is accumulating at places in the ditches to form small pools to enhance its beauty , as if it is studded , here and there , with sparkling gems .
In the moonlit nights , its charm is further heightened , as if it is full of shining diamonds .
Oh ! How pleasant and enchanting are these natural scenes to look at . The cool and refreshing Ganga is like Vishnu , and , at the same time , it is like Shakti with its roaring flow which can destroy anything that may happen to come in its way .
It has the uniqueness to reflect simultaneously the qualities of both Lord Vishnu and Shiva . It is proceeding to the plains for the benefit of the humanity and to bestow its benignity on the suffering masses .
The swift flowing Ganga with a forceful current is roaring like lions , jumping , pushing and splashing against the huge boulders to create foam and froth . It is leaping , bouncing , and frisking . It is winding , meandering , spiraling and repeatedly dancing in whirlpools in a frolicsome mood .
Look ! Look ! It is now converted into a beautiful waterfall to come up again to proceed in a zigzag way with undulating waves of froth and tumultuous surges , vibrating , swinging and swaying , like waves of fearless and ferocious lions .
It is as if challenging ,
" come ego ( deer ) , I will devour thee . O ignorance ( jackal ) , I will crush thy body-consciousness . O the boulders of the worldly attachments , I will reduce you to the dust " .
How wonderful ! It appears that the army of ignorance with all its darkness of superficiality has been totally vanquished . What message do these beautiful mountains convey ? What has this ecstatic and refreshing coolness to say ?
It appears that Rama's aspirations are sure to be fulfilled now and here and that all the worldly desires shall be annihilated .
Oh , how happily Rama is taking bath in the Ganga , throwing water on all sides and singing merrily :
" O Ganga ! Thou are the ruler of all the rivers .
Thy splashes are pleasant , invigorating and refreshing .
I enjoy hundreds of dips in thee . I ride thy waves .
Parent of mighty rivers
Adored by saints and sages ,
The much beloved peerless Ganga ,
Famous from age to age . "
" Unconscious roll the surges down ,
But not unconscious thou ,
Dread spirit of the roaring flood ,
For ages worshipped as a god ,
And worshipped even now !
For sages of the mightiest fame
Have paid homage to thy name . " — Dutta .
" Sacred Ganga , ample bosomed ,
Sweeps along in real pride ,
Rolling down the limpid water
Through high banks on either side . "

The sun is about to set . Rama is sitting on a hillock , and is in a strange state of mind .
You can neither call it sorrow nor any discomposure . It is not even the worldly pleasure . It is neither a waking state nor even a sleeping state . This may be a state of intoxication .
But no . It is not that of any worldly intoxicant . It is a wonderful state of blissful forgetfulness .
From beyond the far off trees , there comes the sound of conch shell and the ringing of the bells . Perhaps , there is some temple , where Aarati ( light oblation ) is being performed .
Look here . Two or three feet above the top of the high mountain , the moon has also appeared . Has it come to join the Aarati ? Why to join it ? With its shining and effulgent face , it is already becoming the Aarati of Shiva , the Universal Self .
It seems that the entire nature has joined the rejoicings of this Aarati , because of the echo on all sides . O moon ! Thou canst claim to be all alone to become the Aarati .
Rama is also here to sacrifice all , after burning the body , mind and intellect , consciousness , as an incense for this Aarati .
