Freedom , freedom , liberty , liberty !!!
Who goads the children to wait impatiently for Sunday , their school holiday ? Generally the teachers are apparently reluctant to give holiday to their wards .
In spite of it , the children's own love for holiday is no less . The yellow faces of the office-going assistants are cheered up at the mere mention of the holiday .
In the history of the world , great wars and revolutions took place only for the sake of liberty . Millions of people shed their blood only for freedom .
Generally , the people of all the religions , especially those of the Hindu religion are prepared to sacrifice their all at the altar of their Faith .
What is the objective of a Sannyasi for which one is prepared to stake one's all ?
It is salvation which means Mukti , freedom or liberty . It is to become free from the bondage of body and mind consciousness .

" I welcome thee , Freedom ! Thou art the soul of happiness and the object of hopes . The whole world is mad after thee .
The nations of this world went to the battlefield to fight with one another and shed blood in thy name .
All the religions of the world have but one aim . It is to achieve Freedom , Mukti , Salvation or Liberty .
The children anxiously wait for thee , Liberty ! They continue to count the days for a holiday .
The people drink rum , brandy , whisky , etc , only to get freedom from the anxieties ; but , unfortunately , they only imprison themselves , by being addicted to the intoxicants .
My friends ! Even this sleep would not have been sweet , had it not given you a little freedom from your worries .
When a bird is imprisoned , it prays for freedom , and not for its body , for its life .
Truly speaking , the moments of pleasure are only in Freedom . There is no real happiness without Freedom or Liberty . "

Another poem says :
" What ? do you mean to say that Freedom is to be free to do whatever you like , to eat , drink and be merry ?
To enjoy , drink and dance and to luxuriate in garden house in an extravagant way ?
To have new-cut caps or shoes and faultless attractive suits ?
To marry whomsoever you like , without any consideration for righteousness ?
To ride a beautiful coach drawn by healthy horses and managed by liveried coachpersons ?
Does freedom mean that you should be slave to your servant to help you put on your coat and shoes ?
To drink soda water eagerly and to be a chain smoker , so as to become a heart patient and forget RAMA or GOD ?
Do you call all this Freedom ? No . It is not freedom . It is like the restlessness of a ball in the playground .
If the horse is out of control , the rider is imprisoned and one weeps for one's life .
If the horse of the sense organs is beyond your control , there is no hope for you . You are sure to fall , break your head and die .
An uncontrolled horse is dangerous . You may have to lose your very life .
Dear Friend ! If you want real freedom , you should not allow freedom to your senses , the snakes in your sleeves .
Yes , Only that one is free , who can exercise control over one's mind and desires .
It is only the Divine knowledge which can grant Real Freedom or Salvation . In order to achieve this Freedom or Mukti , I am prepared to sacrifice all my possessions of the two worlds . "

Yet , another poet says :
" I am free . I am free . I am free from the worries and anxieties of this old one , the world . "
( 1 ) The rider sat on a sturdy , energetic and untrained horse which had just been brought fresh from the jungle .
The rider first tightly tied to this horse , so as not to fall down , and then it was lashed . The horse was already very healthy and active and , on being struck , it dashed off , clearing the trenches and the hurdles , jumping across the rivulets and the deserts and crossing the most difficult terrain in no time .
Poor rider ! being tossed up and down on the horse and getting anxious about the safety of the life . What a strange ride is it !
Even the enemy may not have to face such a dangerous situation .
The body of the rider was bleeding with scratches , trembling with nervousness and badly perspiring .
There seemed to be no end to this perilous journey . The destination was far out of sight . The rider was really damned .
According to a couplet :
" The heart is coming out in the form of tears of blood . Fie upon such a freedom which is nothing but the very cause of one's ruination . "

( 2 ) It was seen in a feast that some of the children were putting the sweets in their pockets , instead of putting them in their mouths .
Seeing this , someone remarked ,
" The sweets in the pocket will neither give taste nor will it remove your hunger . Put them in your mouth , if you want to enjoy their taste " .
No sweets is better than the Real Freedom . The sweets ( of liberty ) kept in the pocket ( of this body ) will not remove hunger .
Utilize this liberty to free yourself from the bondage of desires , passions , emotions etc .
If you grant freedom to your senses or sense organs , you will be ruined .
( 3 ) There is a story about a Pathan . The Pathan's child was scolded by the teacher for some negligence . The child took it ill and pulled out a sword .
The teacher , being nervous , ran away . The child also followed the teacher with the drawn sword in hand .
The parent of the child saw this and cried out ,
" Teacher , teacher , stop , stop , please . My child has drawn the sword for the first time in life . Pray , do not let it go waste . "
Dear young persons ! Do you really desire freedom ? If so , please do consider whether you require it for your own self , or to satisfy your mean desires and passions .
The fact is that you want freedom for your own self , but , mistakenly , you give it to others .
This is bad . You will have to repent , ultimately . If your desires , passions and emotions are left uncontrolled , you will have to bear the brunt for good .

( 4 ) During the days of Mutiny in India in 1857 , ( now known as the First War of Independence ) the soldiers attacked the residence of a Nawab .
The main gate of the house was bolted from inside but the backdoor in a narrow lane was open . The bed of the Nawab was close to this backdoor .
Seeing the soldiers had started breaking open the main gate , the Nawab wanted to escape through the backdoor . How could this be done , without putting on the shoes ?
The Nawab was given to luxurious pomp and show , and would never sit in the buggy without the support of servants . How could one think of running away all by oneself ?
The Nawab regarded walking on foot against culture . How could there be escape without an escort ? The Nawab called out to the personal servant :
" Alim , Alim , Look sharp . Make haste . Quick , quick . Help me to put on the shoes " .
When a person is in danger , one first thinks of saving one's own life .
Alim was terribly afraid of the invading soldiers . Their shining swords and pointed spears were before the mental eyes . Seeing the backdoor open , Alim jumped out and ran away to save Alim's life , instead of helping the Nawab to put on shoes .
The Nawab could only abuse Alim for disobedience , then calling on the other servant ,
" Kalim , Kalim . Shoes , shoes " .
Kalim did come but , instead of carrying out orders , too , jumped out of the backdoor and fled away .
The Nawab then called out the third servant ,
" Salim , Salim " .
But , by this time the main gate was nearly broken .
Salim was awfully nervous , could not even listen to the orders of the Nawab , and also ran out of the backdoor .
The soldiers were now inside the house . Poor Nawab ! The life was no more safe .
Dear readers ! This sort of slavery makes one dependent upon others . Is it richness ? No .
The Nawab was not the Master , but was , in fact , dependent upon the servants . A slave of slaves . Fie on such a mastery . Fie on this freedom-looking imprisonment .
The one , who falls a prey to the freaks of ignorance is ultimately deluded , and does not deserve to be called free .
