|| SECOND OBSTACLE ( DUALISM ) ||
It has been experienced that when the mind starts meditating on Divine bliss , the thought of antagonism and enmity filibusters it , like a robber .
One day a European doctor in philosophy was speaking critically of visitors . When asked ,
" What ! Do you harbour grievance against them ? "
The professor replied ,
" No . I was only studying the psychology of their mind . "
This is exactly what people do in this world , they give some good name to hatred and deceive themselves by continuing to nurture the poisonous serpent all the time in their hearts .
The doctor was again confronted . Rama said ,
" It is not enough to study the psychology only of the concerned persons . It is also worthwhile to study the psychology of your own mind . Now , when you notice the faults in others , is the internal condition of your own mind quite free from defects and prejudices ? "
The doctor was well-meaning . After a little pause , and some reflection , the doctor said ,
" Swami , you are quite correct . "
As a matter of fact , good or bad thoughts and ideas are drawn towards us , according to the condition of our own mind .
There will be no end to it , if we continue to reflect on the mental state of others . There is no use trying to control others .
" I am the Mind of all the minds and I am the Intellect of all the intellects . "
There is such a continuity of inner unity that when I purify myself , I find every one else to be purified .
You do not try this direct method ( to realise yourself to be Brahma ) but , instead , you try an indirect method ( of reforming others ) . The result is that neither you get this not that .
You will realise GOD or Brahma in no time , if you forget and forgive those whom you consider your enemies , opponents , fault finders , and adversaries . It will not take even that much of time as is taken by the light to dispel darkness .
But first you have to realise your oneness with All .
Unless you realise your oneness with All ( Sam Dhee ) you cannot attain Samadhi ( complete absorption and self-forgetfulness in meditation ) .
With a spirit of differentiation ( as opposed to oneness ) , you cannot have even Dhyana ( concentration ) not to say about Dharma ( uninterrupted one-pointedness ) or Samadhi .
You will have Sama-Drishti ( equality with all ) , when you rise above good or evil in others .
How to attain this stage ? This will be achieved , if you do not discriminate between person and person , and do not imagine good or evil in them , as they all are nothing different or separate from Brahma .
There are waves in the ocean , some small , some big , some low , some high , some slanting and some straight up . But , all the same , they are all one with the Ocean . They are never taken to be different and separate from it .
So , too , good or bad , rich or poor all are like waves in which only one Brahma ( ocean ) is permeating . How wonderful ! When we rise above individuality of good and evil and when we take all to be Brahma , like waves in an ocean , we shall cease to have love or hatred for them .
Our minds will not then be agitated , but , instead , they shall be full of peace and tranquility . The wave which has risen high is sure to fall down .
Similarly one who has acquired evil in oneself , has got to suffer for one's misdeeds . But , in spite of high or low waves , the ocean has always been taken to be horizontal .
Similarly , inspire of their sufferings , good or bad , no disturbance is caused in the smoothness of Brahma .
How pleasing is it to watch the tamasha ( play ) of the waves . But it can be troublesome to those who get wet with the waves or who may , somehow , be led by the waves into the ocean .
So , you must not allow yourself to be engrossed in or attached to worldly affairs . You will be drowned . Be only an unattached witness .
If you develop unattached equality or unselfish oneness with All , you will ultimately attain Sama Dhee or Samadhi ( self-absorption in Brahma ) .
