|| 01.4 | ASTARA | DIRECTIVES ||
OM! THE PANCHA ASTARA ( ritual rug ) is a clean sacred energy surface — absorbing Kundalini Shakti — that is dedicated to The 5 Obligatory Ritual Observances of PANCHAVANDANAM . || 28 ||
OM! The ASTARA should always be positioned so that PRANAM ( MUDRA | DANDAVATS ) are never offered specifically to apparent bodies , body representations , or objects DURING THE PANCHA — however such may also be offered NOT during PANCHA but only if there is awareness that PRANAM is salutationing < ! GOD ABSOLUTE ! > . || 29 ||
OM! The ASTARA should be kept completely clean :
1 . Shoes and socks should be removed to approach the ASTARA with bare feet
2 . Brush and shake ASTARA periodically
3 . Roll or fold up and put away ASTARA when not in use UNLESS a traffic free room ( or area of room ) is devoted specifically to PANCHA — in which case the ASTARA may be kept in position on floor . || 30 ||
OM! More than one ASTARA may be employed for convenience of observance at < GINFINI > multiple locations < OM > . || 31 ||
OM! The ASTARA may be substituted ( additionally ) with an appropriate pocket sized foldable travel mat , if necessary , to provide a provisional clean surface — plastic is permissible under this circumstance . || 32 ||
OM! The ASTARA should preferably be thick enough to be comfortable and consist of nontoxic Vegan materials — especially for purity of breath during DANDAVATS . || 33 ||
OM! The ASTARA should be simple in patterning ( or none : solid color ) — nondistracting floral , abstract , geometric patterns are acceptable — with no depictions of body appearances , building architecture , or narrative scenes . || 34 ||
OM! The default focal point for eye gaze during PANCHA is at PRANAM on the ASTARA — specifically : where bowed head comes to rest during ARDHA DANDAVAT ( AD ) . || 35 ||
