|| PRASANKHIAN | PART 1 ||

THE PROCESS , ANALYSIS & INTROSPECTION OF NON-DUALISTIC UPASANA

We have selected from the scriptures only those portions which appeal to the heart . As for example , we have selected the Atmapanchak Stotra of Shankaracharya .

" I am neither body , sense-organs , mind , intellect , life-force nor egoism .

I am neither the field nor the house nor a person nor worldly wealth .

I am Shiva , The Immortal Truth . I am Consciousness and Eternal Bliss . "

The last sentence should be repeated again and again with feeIing so much so that our hearts may be saturated with the same idea . If there is one-pointed concentration on the idea that " I am not body etc " we shall rise above body consciousness . It is mere foolishness and ignorance , if we indulge in egoistic acts and ignore reason .

" I am Shiva , The Immortal Truth , I am Consciousness and Eternal Bliss . "

Undoubtedly , the ultimate conclusion of Vedas and Vedanta is nothing else . The Vedas and the scriptures tell me that I am not body etc .

It is a great sin to consider ourselves to be body , mind and intellect etc . Why should I commit such a sin ?

" I am Shiva , The Immortal Truth , I am Consciousness and Eternal Bliss . "

My guru , the preceptor , has instructed me on the basis of personal experience that

" I am not this body etc "

Even then , if I indulge in body-consciousness or egoism , it would be a gross insult to my preceptor . Why should I be so arrogant and rebellious ?

" I am Shiva , The Immortal Truth , I am Consciousness and Eternal Bliss . "

I have nothing to do with physical troubles . I have no worldly connections , jealousy , hatred , servility or prestige etc .

I will not mind if anybody calls me good or bad . How can I trust them who are themselves misled ? I will accept only the holy scriptures and their experienced Truth .

I have no ailment , no sorrow , no worry , no jealousy , no hatred and no attachment . I am never born and I never die because I am not body or mind etc . I am pure Atma .

" I am Shiva , The Immortal Truth , I am Consciousness and Eternal Bliss . "

" I am Shiva , The Immortal Truth , I am Consciousness and Eternal Bliss . "

" I am Shiva , The Immortal Truth , I am Consciousness and Eternal Bliss . "

The parent gives the small child the fruit of immortality to play with . The child , as usual , takes it to the mouth and starts sucking it . While sucking , the fruit gets burst and the hands , feet , and the clothes are all smeared with the juice of the fruit .

But the child does not care for all this , now unmindful of the clothes ,  mouth , hands and feet , so much absorbed in the good taste of the fruit , that the child is , as if , all juice oneself .

In the same way , parent Shruti ( Vedas ) has given us the ripe fruit of the inspiring sentence ( Maha Vakya ) of

" I am Shiva , The Immortal Truth , I am Consciousness and Eternal Bliss . "

After all , this immortal fruit bursts , while repeating the Mahavakya , and causes complete absorption in eternal Bliss .

There is nothing beyond us . If we are convinced that the entire universe is our own Atma , why should we then worry about our local or personal needs ? When we find ourselves to be present in all times , where is the worry , then , for tomorrow or the day-after-tomorrow ?

When we come to know that all the people and the objects are our own self , why should we , then , be afraid of what anyone says about us ?

When you are yourself both cause and the effect , the vagrancy of the mind must perish .

The mind will then be all quiet and peaceful , as if there is no mind at all . It is bound to end easily in Self-absorption ( Samadhi ) .

In the words of a poet :—

" There is nothing to worry about . There is now no limitation of time or space . It is a state of continuous satiation and blissful peace . "

Only one can know the joy of the resulting peace and power who has attained this stage of absorption in Self .

Ruler Janaka narrates personal experience after tasting this nectar , thus ( From an Urdu poem by RAMA ) :—

" When I gave up the use of rose for my personal enjoyment , all the flower-gardens of the world were at my disposal .

When I gave up the taste of my tongue , all the tastes of the world became mine .

When I gave up the personal enjoyment of my eyes , all the beautiful sights become mine .

When I gave up my desire for enjoyment of fresh air , all the pleasures of the morning breeze were at my disposal .

When I gave up my desire to enjoy the pleasant sounds , all the sweet melodies and musical instruments became my own .

When I gave up my worries for my betterment , all the beautiful and inspiring thoughts became my own .

Ah ! It is a great thing that I have no possessions . I have no claim even on my personal name and form of my body . When I realised that these hands and feet , these eyes and other organs are not my personal possessions , I realised that all the bodies of the world are my own . "
